How To Start Thinking Positively

Ever have one of those days where you just can’t get out of your ‘funk’? Negative thinking can be a habit picked up from others or at times a lack of courage; because let’s face it, it takes courage to be positive when you’re stuck in a rut. So what causes people to fall into a pattern of negative thinking?

For many it’s a build up of stressful situations that seem to spiral out of control. Once this starts to happen many of us just assume the worst will always happen. This can lead to feelings of betrayal or failure that only make an already negative situation worse. So let’s just stop while we’re ahead! We know that negative thinking can make an already bad situation worse so why not try having a more positive outlook. Here are a few ways to turn those negative thoughts into positive ones.

1. Meditation

When you’re having a hard time, stop, sit down, and breathe. Give yourself a few minutes to sit in silence and focus. Try to bring your thoughts back to you and focus on what is going on in that moment.

2. Smile

Turn that frown upside down! Smiling will help brighten up your mood. Even if you have to force a smile it will still help. It takes less muscles to smile than it does to frown so you will feel even lighter.

3. Stop being the victim

You and only you are in control of your life. Take responsibility and make a change if need be. You will feel empowered knowing you did something for yourself.

4. Spread the love

Help others who are in need or just do something nice for a friend. You will feel wonderful and it will help take your mind off of any problems you might have been dealing with.

5. Don’t dwell on past mistakes

Remember that no one is perfect. We all make mistakes and sometimes it’s better to move on and tell yourself you will do better next time.

6. Sing

Get up in the morning and sing. Singing can be a great stress reliever. It provides a way for us to show our true feelings. I sing everyday in my car after work and by the time I get home I feel less stressed!

7. Aspirations

When you get up first thing in the morning tell yourself something good. Reciting positive aspirations can be very helpful in lifting your mood. Just tell your self you love yourself everyday and see what happens!

The mind is a powerful thing. If you bring positive energy into your day by spreading love, doing something nice for a friend, or even just sitting down to breathe, I guarantee you will feel better. Not only will you feel better but you will be able to see past the negative thoughts that once clouded your day. So get out there and start smiling!
